Messinian ostracodes from the western Betic Strait (SW Spain)

چکیده
During the Neogene, Betic Strait was one of gateways that connected Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. In this paper, we have analyzed ostracod faunas samples collected from sediments crossed by a long borehole in southwestern Spain. These were deposited strait just before Messinian Salinity Crisis. middle (6.8-6.0 Ma), scarce low diversified assemblages (Krithe, Parakrithe, Henryhowella) are typical upper bathyal palaeoenvironments (200-400 m water depth). This period includes short transition (6.26-6.25 Ma) to outer neritic palaeoenvironments, coinciding with glaciation characterized presence Acanthocythereis hystrix (Reuss, 1850) disappearance Krithe Parakrithe. The most abundant species wide biostratigraphic distribution, them ranging Tortonian until Holocene.

Lower-middle Eocene benthic foraminifera from the Fortuna Section (Betic Cordillera, southeastern Spain)
Benthic foraminifera were studied as part of an investigation of the Fortuna Section (Betic Cordillera, Southeastern Spain), undertaken to document a candidate section for the Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the base of the Lutetian Stage (Ypresian/Lutetian boundary). Benthic foraminiferal assemblages in this section are mostly dominated by calcareous taxa (~50-96%) and by infaun...
متن کاملEvaluating the results of Hormuz strait wave simulations using WAVEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW
In this study, the capabilities of WAWEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW for predicting the characteristics ofwind-generated waves in Hormuz Strait are evaluated. The numerical models have been set up using Input data including GFS wind with 5° spatial resolution and 6 hours time intervals, along with the ETOPO1 bathymetry data with 2 arc-minute spatial resolutions. The results of the two model simulatio...
متن کاملTectonically driven landscape development within the eastern Alpujarran Corridor, Betic Cordillera, SE Spain (Almerı́a)
The Betic Cordillera is a topographic manifestation of Miocene to recent collision between the African and the European plates. Mountain ranges in the Internal Zone of the Betic Cordillera are exhumed massifs of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, and are surrounded by low-lying sedimentary basins. The Neogene history of mountain range uplift and basin formation in the Betics is well studied, bu...
متن کاملTiming of tectonic events in the Alpujárride Complex, Betic Cordillera, southern Spain
Ar–Ar and fission-track dating from four low-grade sections in the Alpujárride Complex sheds light on the timing of the early contractional history of these high-pressure metamorphic units, and their subsequent exhumation during the early Miocene extensional collapse of the Betic orogen. White mica grains from the lowest-grade rocks yield partly reset detrital Ar–Ar ages; where deformation and ...
